Open How to edit material with HEX-editor?

I posted this on Reddit about 1 month ago, but in the end, having not received any answer, I decided to come here.

Well, I got a little bit kind of a question two days ago, while thinking about idea of making K/DA Ahri ears and tails using new ears ans tails mod. Retexturing the upk file is not took me so long to do, but then i realized the fact, that I have exactly no idea what to do with material file, to get a half-transparent or glossy effect.
A-and for now i have this:

Would be really helpful if someone of mod makers could explain me how to do such kind of things.

I think it's textures, HEX editor has nothing to do with it.

I already tried to change the alpha channel transparency in D and S textures, but it did not give any result. maybe it depends on the M texture, btw thanks for the advice. most likely I missed something, while thinking and trying to understand what to do with that thing
